Why Max Verstappen’s ‘Orange Army’ sport the colour Orange

Max Verstappen fans adore the colour Orange as it is considered the national colour of the Netherlands. The colour orange refers to the family name of the Dutch Royal Family, the House of Orange-Nassau. It has since been associated with the country’s sports. Most famously, Netherlands’s national football team famously plays in bright orange shirts and is referred to as ‘Oranje‘ which is Dutch for Orange.

Verstappen has accumulated a significant fanbase from around the world, with a majority hailing from his home country of the Netherlands. Grand Prix events have dedicated Verstappen grandstands with thousands of travelling Dutch fans, boosting ticket sales, particularly for European races such as Belgium, Austria and Hungary.

The 2021 Dutch Grand Prix was the first Dutch Grand Prix to take place since 1985. Max claimed the race victory and became the first Dutch Driver to win a home Grand Prix. His fans made the race’s atmosphere wild after lighting up Orange flares and making the entire circuit shrouded in a sea of Orange.
