Remember the teenage cricketer back in 2016 who had all eyes on him? Yes, he is Pranav Dhanawade. The teenage boy who scored a record knock of 1009* for his school.
This knock by Dhanawade remains the highest score by a batsman in cricket in any format. During that time, Dhanawade became a sensation and many predicted he all set for a glorious career ahead.
Fast forward to 2024, Dhanawade is nowhere to be found at not only international cricket, but has failed to emerge in top domestic leagues such as the Indian Premier League. So what happened to Dhanawade? Before taking a look at his current situation, let’s put his historical innings under the magnifying glass.
The short answer is no. No offense to the player, reaching four digits runs is not an easy task by any means. There is a reason why he is the only player that ever reached that score.
But on a closer look at his opposition, it helps understanding his innings. In 2016, Pranav was playing for KC Gandhi High School and their opponents were Arya Gurukul. The opponents were never at their full strength. Most of their first-string players were unable for that match due to their exams.
This led to the team playing mere 12 years old in the team which gave KC Gandhi an enormous advantage. Additionally, the bowlers were not used to playing with a leather ball, putting the team to an immediate disadvantage.
Having such overwhelming disadvantage must have demoralized the bowlers. Adding to their demise was the fact that the boundaries were only 30 yards, so it was easier to score runs. Lastly, the opposition dropped 25 chances (22 catches and 3 stumpings) to sent Pranav back to the pavillon.
Regardless of these things, scoring more than 1000 runs requires top-notch physical and mental skill. So kudos to Dhanawade, but this is the entire truth about his historical inning which gave him a sense of over night success.
Following his incredible knock, Pranav Dhanawade was touted to be the next big thing in the world of cricket. However, in 2024, the once teenage sensation is looking for a spot in Mumbai’s Ranji team. Additionally, due to not playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, Dhanawade couldn’t even register for this edition of IPL.
Luckily, Dhanawade still has his whole life ahead of him and might even make a break through in the Indian cricket team at some point in his career. As of now, he is looking forward to focus on his improving his skills as a player and possibly make it to an IPL team.
