SEATTLE — The King County Prosecutor's Office said Friday that his has filed three felony charges against a man accused of targeting motorists on Interstate 90 in Seattle by throwing rocks and other debris at their passing vehicles.
Abdinasir Audeer, 41, of Seattle, remained at the King County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond, authorities said. He was expected to appear in court on Aug. 5 to enter a plea to three counts of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
The Washington State Patrol said earlier this week that at least seven vehicles were allegedly targeted around 4 p.m. by Audeer, who is accused of throwing items from the side of westbound lanes of I-90 near the Rainier Avenue exit.
The aftermath of his activity this week was captured by cameras operated by the Washington Department of Transportation, the patrol said.
According to the patrol, Audeer was chased down by a motorist, who helped identify the suspect to law enforcement authorities. A trooper was in the area and was able to make it to the scene quickly enough to apprehend the suspect.
The patrol said previously that five suspects have been arrested in connection with rock attacks on motorists that have been occurring on I-90 and I-5 in Seattle in recent weeks. Troopers said there have been 209 reported incidents of motorists being targeted from the roadside with debris and rocks.
