McLean becomes Boise's first elected female mayor

Boise got its first elected female mayor Tuesday as Lauren McLean was sworn in.

She secured the office after winning a runoff election against four-term Mayor Dave Bieter.

People are calling it a historic day in Boise politics.

McLean has a long history of service to the city.

She's served on the city council since 2011, most recently as council president.

"We were lucky enough to find this place at a young age, to take a chance, and to land here. And through that we were able to build a home and create a life," said McLean.

McLean will be Boise's first female mayor to be elected to a full term in office. And, she said she's already working toward implementing her agenda.

Once sworn in, McLean said she plans to address issues like affordable housing and regional transit. She wants to put together a task force to help housing initiatives and other programs.

During her campaign, McLean said she wanted to prioritize speaking directly with people over playing politics. And, she intends to do the same as mayor.

During the event, former Mayor Bieter thanked Boise for his time in office.
