Idaho Adventure: Puzzle Effect in Boise

Some Idaho Adventures are meant to happen indoors. For this week’s adventure, it required teamwork and communication, something we think we're pretty good at here on the CBS2 morning show.

And as if we don't spend enough time together in close quarters, we locked ourselves in an escape room for an hour at "Puzzle Effect” in Boise.

It all went down so quickly, one minute we were briefed about our challenge, and then we were let loose trying to break the "Curse on the Emerald Seas".

At first, we had no idea where to start so, we tried to get into character. The props didn't help much, and I had my doubts that we were going to make it very far at all.

But eventually help arrived, it came in the form of a clue.

"Each group is unique, not every clue will work for each person, so we evaluate how are group is thinking, are they creative? Are they analytical? How do they work? and we tailor the clues to you guys,” said Senior Game Master Kaity Buckley.

The challenge was very detailed, each clue leading you to another piece of the puzzle. It made it fun, getting to work through each part of the puzzle as a team.

We all brought different ideas to the table, and when our ideas fell short, fortunately, the game master would be ready to step in and point us in the right direction.

"You get to watch us go through the process, to struggle, what's it like to watch us go through that? It's relatable, you see things when people are playing and you're like, oh, I think that way, and it’s really exciting to engage with people and go, okay, I understand the way they're thinking how can I help them in the best way to help them be as successful as possible," said Buckley.

The escape room was challenging, Kaity said most groups, if they escape at all, use up all 60 minutes of time.

In our case, the clock said we finished with one second to spare, but, Kaity tacked on an extra minute.

"Help isn't a bad thing, it's just us getting to play alongside you guys, we're in the moment too, we're all having fun," said Kaity.

Puzzle Effect has four different escape rooms to challenge yourself with. The ‘Curse on the Emerald Seas’ is one of their most challenging rooms, it can have up to 6 players at a time. For more information visit their site here.
