Chris Evert, the 67-year-old American former tennis professional is widely regarded as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. With 18 grand slam titles to her name, Evert has her name etched among the all-time greats of the sport. The American icon had some amazing moments and rivalries throughout her career.
In a recent interview, Evert took a dig at good-looking players like Maria Sharapova and Eugenie Bouchard. The tennis legend also shared her thoughts on how beauty standards have changed with time.
She said, “I used to get people commenting on my weight all the time. I was always conscious of that. Nothing has changed. It got to the point where athletes weren’t supposed to have an ounce of fat on them, an extra inch. It hurt my feelings. I think we are all pretty sensitive. When you’re young and in the limelight, it takes some getting used to.“
“If you look like Maria Sharapova or Eugenie Bouchard, you’re always going to have companies coming after you with endorsements, because companies like successful women who are good-looking. That’s the way it’s always been. It’s the women’s choice how they want to come across, but you don’t have to pose naked. It should be enough that – no matter how you look – you are successful because of hard work and doing what you love to do.“

Chris Evert is also one of those retired professionals who is quite active on social media. The tennis legend recently got into it on Twitter as a fan posted Novak Djokovic’s quote. The Serb pointed out that he and Rafael Nadal have played against each other more than any other rivalry in the history of tennis.
This caught both Martina Navratilova’s and Chris Evert’s attention as they called out the Serb for not specifically mentioning men’s tennis. Navratilova and Evert have played way more matches than Nadal and Djokovic between each other.
